No poem should ever be discussed or \"analyzedeacher
or student. Better still, perhaps, is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end, so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it. All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally, the most telling \"interpretation(解释)\" of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on film, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching can not replace the student and teacher reading it or, best of all, reciting(背诵)it.
I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than
\"analyzing\" it, if there isn't time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is \"a criticism of life\and \"a heightening (提升) of life\". It is \"an approach to the truth of feeling\of language and literature more central than it presently occupies.
I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. Those who don't like it should not be
forced to put that dislike on anyone else. But those, who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things
about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.
60. According to the text, to have a better understanding of a poem, the best way is______.
A. to hear it read out C. to discuss it with others k
B. to analyze it by oneself D. to practise reading it aloud
61. The best explanation for the underlined sentence in paragraph 1 should be__________. A. students should read the poem at the end of poem class B. we should end the analyzing of the poem by reading it aloud
C. sometimes the sound of the poem represents the meaning of it
D. we feel the original meaning of the author by hearing the poem read loud after discussion 62. What does the last sentence in the third paragraph imply? A. The teaching of poetry should have been much more stressed. B. One cannot enjoy life fully without an understanding of poetry. C. Poetry is the foundation of all language and literature courses.
D. The teaching of poetry is more important than the teaching of any other subject. 63. The phrase “make room” in the last paragraph could be best replaced by ______. A. “provide equipment” C. “set aside enough space”
B. “leave a certain amount of time” D. “build a booth”

Who knows about sleep? Astronauts. They have to. Their bodies are cut off from the outside world that reminds us what time it is. But actually, it’s even worse than that. An astronaut reported in his diary that he was likely to make mistakes on days following an unusually late bedtime.
So NASA started doing some serious research. They quickly realized that we’re a slave to the outside world. Without light and darkness, we’re unable to regulate (管理) sleep times.
Because of modern technology, we’re all living more like astronauts now. Light is no longer a function of the sun, but of always-on indoor lights, TV and computer screens. Temperature no longer follows a cycle of cooling at night and warming during the day. Is it any wonder that a third of American have sleep problems?
Maybe you think this doesn’t affect you--- or at least not much. You’re wrong. Research done on non-astronauts has shown the same thing. After two weeks of six hours of sleep a night, you’re drunk. By the end of two weeks, the six-hour sleepers behaved as badly as those who hadn’t slept for 24 hours.
But what did they say when asked how they felt? “It’s not affecting me.” So if you are performing poorly because of sleep problems, you may have no idea. This is a real problem.
So what answers did NASA come up with?
Take an hour to calm down before bed. Yes, you’re busy. But your time is not more valuable than an astronauts’. Keep your bedroom dark, cool and free from noise. Even if you think “the light doesn’t affect you” or “the noise isn’t that bad”, it can still affect sleep quality.
Another advice: forget the alarm clock in the morning; set an alarm to remind you to go to bed at night. When it goes off, finish up any work on the computer, and turn off any unnecessary lights. This prevents you from cheating yourself on sleep and allows you to wake up naturally. 71. What did NASA find about people’s sleep?
A. It takes a long time to develop regular sleep times. B. It’s strongly influenced by the outside world. C. It remains untouched by outside influences. D. It’s hard to change one’s sleep habits.
72. Paragraph 3 is mainly about _________. A. different sleep types
B. the importance of a good sleep
C. the reasons why we have sleep problems D. the disadvantages of modern technology
73. The biggest problem of those who haven’t enough sleep lies in the fact that __________. A. they can’t fall asleep without the lights on C. they refuse to regulate their sleep times
B. they don’t know whether they sleep well D. they get too drunk to sleep well
74. What does the underlined sentence in the passage mean? A. You should make full use of tour time.
B. You can find the time to get ready to sleep. C. You can sleep later to finish your work first. D. You should learn from astronauts’ way of sleep. 75. What’s the advice on the alarm clock? A. Use it to remind you it sleep. B. Put it far away from your bed. C. Get up immediately when it rings. D. Listen carefully to it when it rings.
