Classroom Requirements
Part 1 - Minimum Hardware Requirements

Pentium 4 - 1.4GHz or higher
2GB RAM minimum, 4 GB recommended. 15GB free hard disk space (preferably in C: drive).
Network connectivity to the internet. Note: Some of the lab exercises require functioning Internet access.
Part 2 - Minimum Software Requirements

Windows XP Pro (SP1 or 2), Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (SP1) or Enterprise Edition (SP2), or Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions. (Other versions of Windows are not supported)

Part 4 - Important Ghosting or Imaging Information
Some of the software installed for this course will not function after changing the
computer hostname. As such, cloning or imaging should not be used on a fully installed system.
You can save time by extracting the contents of the USB memory stick to C:\\ on a clean OS install (no other software installed) and then imaging that hard drive. After restoring the image to the other computers and changing the hostnames, you can then install the software on each computer individually by following the instructions that are detailed later in this document.

Software Installation
Part 1 - Preparation
__1. From the first USB memory stick, extract the WA1685_1.ZIP file to C:\\__2. From the second USB memory stick, extract the WA1685_2.ZIP file to C:\\ __3. From the third USB memory stick, extract the WA1685_3.ZIP file to C:\\ __4. Review that the following folders were created:

Part 2 - Installing Rational Application Developer v7.5 Trial version (RAD 7.5) with WebSphere Portal V6.1
Installing RAD 7.5 with Portal 6.1 involves three basic steps: installing the IBM Installation
Manager, installing RAD 7.5 itself, and then installing Portal 6.1. This document will outline all these steps.
__1. Make sure you are logged in as an administrative user.
__2. Before you begin, please shut down any running applications. The installation process is quite CPU/disk intensive.
__3. Open the file 'C:\\Windows\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts' with a text editor like Wordpad.
__4. Add the entry 'portal.mycomputer.com' as the first entry on the line with 127.0.0.1 as shown below. Make sure you have at least one space or tab between all entries.
Note: This step is taken just to make sure that the Portal installation performed later has a “long” hostname that is associated with this computer.__5. Save and close the file.
__6. Open a Windows command prompt. You can do this by clicking 'Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command prompt'.
__7. Type the command 'ping portal.mycomputer.com' and be sure you get a response as shown below.

__8. Close the command prompt.
__9. From C:\\Software\\RAD_SETUP, run launchpad.exe. The installer will begin. __10. Select the language as English and click OK.
__11. Click Install IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software.

A new program – the IBM Installation Manager will launch. You will then be prompted to Install Packages.
__12. Make sure both IBM Installation Manager and Version 1.2 are selected and click Next.
The License Agreement screen will appear.

__13. At the bottom of the screen, select I accept the terms in the license agreements and click Next.
You will be asked to select a location for the Installation Manager. __14. Leave the default Installation Manager Directory and click Next.You will be asked to review summary information.
__15. Click Install.
The Installation Manager will install. Eventually, it will complete.
__16. Click Restart Installation Manager. The Installation Manager will re-launch.

__17. Click Install.
__18. If the following message appears asking to install the new version of the Installation Manager, click Yes.
Wait until the software is updated.
__19. Click OK when shows that the software has been updated.

__20. Click Again Install in the Installation Manager window.The Install Packages screen will appear.
__21. Select the package IBM Rational Application Developer (the first option). Select only this option as we will be installing a test environment later.
__22. Click Next.
The License Agreement will appear.

__23. At the bottom of the page, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and click Next.
You will be asked to select a location for the shared resources directory:
__24. Leave the default Shared Resources Directory and click Next.
You will be asked to select a directory for the IBM Software Delivery Platform.

__25. Leave the default Installation Directory and click Next.
You will be asked if you would like to extend an existing version of Eclipse.
__26. Do not select anything and simply click Next.__27. Leave the default language to install and click Next.You will be asked to select the features to be installed.
__28. Expand the options for IBM Rational Application Developer.

__29. Expand Web Development Tools and check Struts Tools.
__30. Scroll down and check Portlet and Portal Tools.
__31. Check that your options match that below and click Next.
You will be asked to configure a few options.
__32. For the option for the Help System leave Access help from the Web selected and click Next.
The Summary Information will appear.

__33. Click Install and the installation will begin.
This may take some time (up to one hour on slower machines), so be patient. Eventually, installation will complete.

__34. Check None and click Finish.
__35. Back in the Installation Manager select File -> Exit to close the window.
__36. Go back to the first Launchpad window.
__37. Under Install Optional Products, click WebSphere Portal v6.1 test environment.
__38. Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\\Software\\RAD7_5Portal and then click OK.
__39. Verify that the path is set to C:\\Software\\RAD7_5Portal

__40. Click OK. The WebSphere Portal 6.1 Installer will start. Be patient while the installer
launches.
__41. On the Welcome screen click Next.
__42. Check I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.

__43. In the Installation type page, select the Administration option and click Next.
__44. Leave the default Install Location and click Next.

__45. Enter portal.mycomputer.com as the Host name.
__46. Click Next.
__47. Ignore the warning about the hostname not matching and click the OK button.
__48. You will be prompted for a User ID and a password (and a password confirmation). Enter wpsadmin for all three.

Note. You must be very careful in this step, if you don't type the right user or password you won't be able to open the Portal Server.
__49. Click Next.
__50. Leave the option for running as a Windows service unchecked and press the Next button.
__51. The Summary screen will be presented.

__52. Click Next to begin the install. If you are prompted by Windows security during the
installation select Unblock.
Note that this may take between 1 and 2 hours depending on the performance of your computer. Be patient.
Eventually, the install will complete.
__53. Uncheck all of the boxes in the installation wizard and click Finish.

__54. Close the IBM Rational Application Developer 7.5 launchpad window.
Part 3 - Verify Rational Application Developer V7.5 (RAD 7.5) with WebSphere Portal V6.1
__1. Open a browser and browse to http://portal.mycomputer.com:10040/wps/portal
__2. The Portal sign-on page should appear. If it does, the install of Portal was successful and the Portal server is currently running.

__3. Enter wpsadmin for UserId and Password and then click Log in.
The Administrator Console will open.

__4. Close the browser window.
__5. Restart the computer and login as administrator.Next you will Start RAD 7.5 and install the Portal Server.
__6. From the Start menu select All Programs > IBM Software Delivery Platform > IBM Rational Application Developer 7.5 > IBM Rational Application Developer. __7. In the workspace window change to C:\\workspace and press OK.
__8. Wait for a while for the product to open. If you are prompted by Windows security while
starting the product select Unblock.
__9. After the product opens, the Trial dialog will open, click Ignore.

__10. The Welcome page will open, close the page this by clicking the X tab.
__11. Click the Servers tab at the bottom panel.
__12. Right click on beneath the white area of the Servers view and select New > Server. The
New Server window will appear.
__13. Select WebSphere Portal v6.1 Server and click Next.

__14. Change the User ID and Password fields to wpsadmin
__15. Click Next.
__16. Enter wpsadmin for both Password fields. (Entering it in one should automatically enter it
in the other.

__17. Click Next.
__18. In the Properties Publishing Settings window leave the defaults and click Next.
__19. In the Add/remove projects window click Finish.
__20. In the Servers window, the newly created Portal Server should be listed.
__21. Right click on WebSphere Portal Server v6.1 Server at localhost and select Start.
__22. The Console will show some messages while the Server starts. This can take a moment or
two for the server configuration that you just created to start and synchronized up with the Portal server.

__23. While the synchronization is occurring, the status of the server will show Publishing.
Once the synchronization is complete, the status will change to Synchronized
__24. Once the server shows a status of Synchronized, stop the Portal Server by right clicking on WebSphere Portal Server v6.1 Server @ localhost and selecting Stop.
__25. The Console view will show some messages while the Server is stopping. The state of the server will eventually change to Stopped.
__26. From the menu, select File -> Exit to close Rational Application Developer.
Congratulations, Rational Application Developer 7.5 with Portal 6.1 has been installed.
