二、教学目标及教学要求
本课程是英语专业的一门主干课程，其目的在于培养学生阅读、欣赏、理解英语文学原著的能力，掌握文学批评的基本知识和方法。通过该课程的学习，使学生对美国文学的历史、主要作家及作品有初步的了解，吸收西方文化的精髓，提高学生的文学鉴赏能力和语言水平。本课程介绍美国文学史的基本脉络、主要文学流派的思想和历史背景及代表人物，选读部分代表作家的代表作品。其目的是使学生对美国文学的历史、主要作家的创作思想和风格有初步的了解。要求学生能认真完成教师布置的阅读任务，并积极参加课堂讨
